The IRS has granted automatic filing extensions through October 15, 2026, for taxpayers in parts of Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina who were affected by severe storms earlier this year. Both individual and business returns qualify for the extension.

In addition to the filing delay, affected taxpayers will not face penalties or interest on payments due between the original deadline and the extended date. Estimated tax payments normally due in June and September are also covered.

Taxpayers in the designated disaster areas do not need to file for the extension separately; the IRS will apply it automatically based on their address of record.
